Wole Oke Dismisses Accord’s Claims, Reaffirms Fidelity to the Constitution and Democratic Institutions

Response to Accord Party’s 28th December 2025 Press Statement, Reiterating Constitutional Order, Political Legitimacy, and Respect for Democratic Institutions

It has become necessary to respond to the press statement issued by Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, Chairman of the Osun State Accord Party, whose recent outburst was heavy on vituperation but painfully light on facts, law, and reason.

First, Pastor Akande must be reminded that calling is no excuse for recklessness in public discourse. Political engagement, like pastoral leadership, demands discipline, restraint, and responsibility. Unfortunately, his statement reflected none of these virtues.

Hon. Wole Oke is an astute and seasoned politician, repeatedly elected by the people of Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency as a sitting Member of the House of Representatives through transparent democratic processes.

Be tutored that political relevance is measured by mandate, service, and legitimacy, not by press tantrums, insults, or emotional outbursts. A man with an active electoral mandate, legislative responsibilities, and years of voter validation cannot, by any stretch of logic, be described as “politically dead.”

It is also important to state clearly that Hon. Wole Oke possesses no constitutional or statutory authority to direct, coerce, or influence the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on party deregistration as erroneously insinuated your party. Our Constitution does!Constitution is the grand norm on deregistration!

Any public comment attributed to him amounts to an opinion or interpretation of the Constitution, a right constitutionally guaranteed to every Nigerian citizen. To label such opinion as “fraud” is not only dishonest but also reveals a worrying level of legal illiteracy, characteristic of unproductive politicians hiding under mushroom platforms like Accord.

At no time has Hon. Wole Oke issued any statement directed at the personal ambition of Governor Ademola Adeleke. Whether the Governor contests, wins, or loses any election remains strictly a matter between him, his party, and the electorate.

Dragging the Governor into this narrative only exposes Accord’s insecurity and its growing suspicion that it may be labouring in vain.

The Constitution is explicit on the conditions under which INEC may deregister a political party. Discussing these provisions is neither a crime nor an act of subversion. If Accord is confident it has met all statutory requirements, then it faces no legal threat and has no reason for hysteria.

What the hollow press release signed by Pastor Victor Babalola Akande clearly demonstrates is intellectual laziness, not political strength. Serious political parties respond with facts, law, and logic not abuse.

Accord cannot sustain relevance by latching onto attacks against Hon. Wole Oke to generate publicity it is otherwise unable to earn.

Its recent alliance with the sitting Governor, a strange bedfellowship borne out of desperation, is a fragile arrangement that will soon be swept away by the whirlwind of deceit that brought it together.

Hon. Wole Oke’s legislative record in the House of Representatives is publicly verifiable, including constituency interventions, bills, motions, and committee responsibilities.

Anyone genuinely interested in governance can consult parliamentary records rather than issue defamatory claims without evidence. Pastor Akande is advised to apply pastoral diligence by verifying facts before speaking instead of resorting to hysteria.

Political migration is constitutionally protected.Nigeria’s political history is replete with leaders who have moved across parties including Accord’s new ally, who once belonged to the APC and made several unsuccessful attempts to return before finding consolation in Accord’s mushroom platform.

Those who now pretend to condemn defections should come to terms with the reality of looming political failure staring them in the face. Hon. Wole Oke owes no apology for exercising a lawful political choice with the APC.

Political strength is tested at the ballot box, not in press releases. If Accord truly enjoys “massive grassroots support as it claims,” it should focus on organization, voter engagement, and genuine penetration into the nooks and corners of Osun State, rather than indulging in tired theatrics and media attacks.

Hon. Wole Oke remains committed to the rule of law, civility, and democratic engagement. He does not trade in threats, nor does he respond to intimidation. Nigeria is governed by institutions, not street rhetoric.

He will not be dragged into the gutter of a party without any political visibility. The people of Osun State deserve issue-based politics, not profanity, bile, and unrestrained anger masquerading as activism.

Hon. Wole Oke has committed no crime, initiated no illegal process, and threatened no democratic institution. What is evident instead is a deep sense of anxiety within Accord, expressed through abusive language rather than rational engagement.

Democracy thrives on debate, not abuse. Law thrives on facts, not hysteria and Osun State deserves better than politics of insult and theatrics,the unfortunate hallmark of Accord and its strange bedfellow.

Hon. Wole Oke remains focused on his legislative duties, respectful of institutions, and confident that truth, law, and the electorate not press releases will ultimately prevail.
