Gambian Writer Abdou Komma Set to Represent Nation at Botswana Literary Festival

Emerging Gambian writer Abdou Komma has been selected to represent The Gambia at the upcoming Molepolole International Book Festival in Botswana, marking a significant milestone in his literary journey.

In a statement released and made available to Oriontimes, Komma expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, describing the opportunity as both humbling and inspiring.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to be featured in this international literary space by the Molepolole International Book Festival,” he said.



The young author noted that the recognition represents not only a personal achievement but also a proud moment for his community in Bassending, where his passion for storytelling first began.

“As a young Gambian author, this recognition means a lot to me and to the journey of storytelling that began in my humble community of Bassending,” he stated.

Komma also extended appreciation to the festival organizers for creating a platform that celebrates African literature and brings together writers from across the continent and beyond.

He described the event as an inspiring gathering of voices shaping culture and influencing minds through literature.

The author is known for his works, including The Blind Bridges of Love and The Dribbles and Drools of Africa. According to him, his writing focuses on exploring African identity, reflecting social realities, and encouraging young people to think critically and believe in the power of their voices.

Komma reiterated his commitment to contributing to the growth of African literature and expressed excitement about joining a global literary community at the festival.

“I remain committed to using my works to explore African identity, reflect our social realities, and inspire young people to believe in the power of their voices,” he added.

The Molepolole International Book Festival is expected to bring together writers, readers, and cultural stakeholders from different parts of the world to celebrate literature and promote cross-cultural dialogue.
