A Nigerian citizen, Adedapo Adegbola, 40, has pleaded guilty to the murder of 23-year-old Stephanie “Steph” Irons at her residence in Mapperley, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom.
Adegbola, who relocated to the UK in 2022, entered a guilty plea to a single count of murder at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, 26 January 2026.
Stephanie Irons, described by her family as a “bright young star”, was found dead in her home in October 2025, prompting a murder investigation by Nottinghamshire Police.
Court proceedings confirmed that Adegbola admitted responsibility for the killing, bringing an end to a case that has drawn significant public attention both in the UK and Nigeria.
He is expected to remain in custody ahead of his sentencing scheduled for 5 February 2026, where the court will determine the length and terms of his punishment.
Authorities have not released further details at this stage, but the case has renewed discussions around domestic violence, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
