The Venezuelan government has directed security agencies to launch an immediate nationwide operation to identify and arrest individuals accused of supporting a recent United States–backed attack that allegedly led to the removal of President Nicolás Maduro.
The directive, dated Saturday, January 3, was signed by Maduro, who, according to the order, was captured earlier that day by U.S. forces and is currently being detained in New York.
In the document, the government instructed all levels of law enforcement national, state, and municipal to take swift action against anyone suspected of involvement.
“The national, state, and municipal police bodies must immediately undertake the search and capture, throughout the national territory, of any person involved in the promotion or support of the armed attack by the United States of America against the territory of the Republic, with a view to their prosecution,” the order stated.
The announcement signals a heightened security crackdown amid escalating political tensions and allegations of foreign interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs.
