Former presidential aspirant, Chief CBN Onwuasoanya Ezendigbo, has shed light on why Africa continues to lag behind other continents. According to Ezendigbo, the region has failed to prioritize investment in knowledge and skills, focusing instead on consumption and entertainment. "While other continents are researching and innovating, we are largely consuming. We spend more on entertainment than on skill and knowledge acquisition,” he noted.
Speaking on the recent tragedy involving boxer Anthony Joshua, Ezendigbo expressed deep concern about societal behavior. “It is sad how the average Nigerian lacks sympathy. Watching the incident was frustrating, many at the scene were more interested in recording the tragedy than attempting any rescue.”
The former presidential candidate further highlighted systemic weaknesses revealed by such incidents. “The country is being test-run. There ought to be emergency systems in place. An ambulance is not meant for the dead,” Ezendigbo stated.
His reflections call for urgent reforms in education, civic responsibility, and public emergency systems, pointing to knowledge, preparedness, and empathy as keys to Africa’s progress.
