Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has reportedly been removed from the Federal Government’s wanted list, paving the way for his return to Nigeria.
According to a spokesperson close to the activist, the development followed the intervention of prominent Yoruba monarchs, who appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his behalf. The traditional rulers were said to have engaged the Presidency in dialogue, urging reconciliation and peace in the interest of unity and stability in the South-West.
The spokesperson disclosed that President Tinubu, after considering the appeals and ongoing consultations, approved Igboho’s removal from the wanted list, effectively clearing him of restrictions that had prevented his return to the country.
Sunday Igboho, a key figure in the Yoruba self-determination movement, fled Nigeria in 2021 after he was declared wanted by security agencies over alleged links to agitation and unrest. His subsequent arrest in Benin Republic and prolonged legal battle drew widespread attention both locally and internationally.
Sources say the recent development signals a shift towards dialogue and political solutions rather than prolonged confrontation. Observers also view the move as part of broader efforts by the current administration to foster reconciliation and ease tensions across different regions of the country.
