Osun 2026: MUPAF Vows to Scrutinise Muslim Guber Candidates, Demands Real Development Not Religious Tokenism

 The Muslim Political Awareness Front (MUPAF) has taken a firm stance on the importance of Muslims in politics and governance, emphasizing that electoral decisions must prioritize tangible development for the Muslim community.

Speaking at a constituency orientation programme on Sunday in Ogbaagba, Olaoluwa local government area of Osun state, MUPAF national Coordinator, Alh Lukman Obembe highlighted the need for transparency and accountability from political candidates especially in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election. 

“What we’ve seen is that many political parties have fielded Muslim candidates in the August 8 governorship election. It is now crucial for us to examine their programs, what they intend to do for Islam and the broader community, because Islam demands community development,” a MUPAF spokesperson said.

The group explained that it will meet and assess candidates’ manifestos and policies to determine who has the best blueprint for advancing development before declaring our official stance.

“It is no longer acceptable for someone to assume office in the name of Islam only to pursue unrelated agendas. Enough of that. Muslims represent a larger portion of Osun’s people and  political actors, and it is time we take active control of our future,” Obembe added.

MUPAF stressed that future leaders should make Islam meaningful and beneficial, while also delivering democratic dividends without favoritism. The organization criticized politics driven by secret society and made the interests of Islam as optional.

To reinforce accountability, MUPAF plans to write to all Osun guber candidates from ADC, APC, SDP among others, juxtaposing their manifestos to ensure that Muslim voices are respected and not sidelined in the state’s political discourse.

“Our goal is clear: to ensure that Muslim interests are neither ignored nor trampled upon, and that the next government contributes to the genuine development of the community,” the group concluded.
