Reno Omokri, the outspoken gospeller and social commentator, has remained conspicuously silent on serious allegations leveled against him by former US mayor Mike Arnold. Arnold, who visited Nigeria to observe religious persecution, accused Omokri of misrepresenting their collaboration, downplaying the severity of Christian persecution, and taking credit for work Arnold had independently funded over several years.
Despite the gravity of the claims, Omokri has not issued any public response, leaving observers to question the gospeller’s selective engagement with issues affecting his public image. His silence stands in stark contrast to his recent fiery response to former presidential candidate Peter Obi on matters of economic discourse.
In a detailed statement addressing Obi’s criticism of Nigeria’s absence from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) list of fastest-growing African economies, Omokri dismissed Obi as “a trader, not a leader,” asserting that Obi’s expertise is better suited for running a market stall at Onitsha Market rather than offering national economic critiques.
Omokri pointed out that the IMF rankings are dominated by countries with very small Gross Domestic Products (GDPs). He cited South Sudan, Guyana, and Libya as examples, noting that their high growth rates are influenced by international aid or minimal starting GDP, and should not be mistaken for economic superiority.
“Notably, Nigeria’s 4.3% GDP growth in the last quarter, tied to production and exports, exceeds the total GDP of South Sudan,” Omokri stated. He further added, “However, if you, Peter Obi, believe South Sudan is better than Nigeria, you can equally move there. After all, South Sudan offers electronic visas to Nigerian citizens.”
