Trump Ends Trade Talks with Canada over ‘Fake’ Reagan Ad

In a dramatic turn of events, former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the termination of all trade negotiations with Canada, citing what he described as an “egregious act” by the Canadian province of Ontario for airing an advertisement that allegedly misused a historic speech by Ronald Reagan to criticize American tariffs.

The 1980s-era Reagan clip, repurposed in a new campaign ad, warned of the dangers of protectionist tariffs, a message that Ontario officials said was aimed at promoting “fair trade.” Trump, however, called it “a deceptive and hostile act” against the United States.

 “TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

The move marks a sharp escalation in the trade dispute between the two neighboring allies, whose economic partnership accounts for billions of dollars in daily commerce.
