Oriontimes International Desk| April 10, 2026 As the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) marks its 50th anniversary, renewed calls have emerged for deeper commitment to constitutional governance and democratic stability across the West African sub-region. ECOWAS, the economic and political bloc comprising 15 West African countries, has played a pivotal role in regional integration, peacekeeping, and conflict resolution since its establishment. However, as the region faces evolving political challenges, stakeholders are emphasizing the urgent need to strengthen democratic institutions. The world is a conflict of opposites.
In recent days, I sat with my friend and brother, Mr. Oni Elijah, not just to mark his birthday, but to reflect deeply on the nature of life, relationships, and the strange way this world treats the good among us.
Why is it that kind people are often taken for granted, while those who walk in cruelty are feared and respected?
It’s a question that continues to twist the stomach of conscience.
When you're on top, when you have what others desire, you'll barely recognize who is truly with you.
You can help someone rise, and they may still turn to fight you. That’s life.
Painful, ungrateful, yet full of hidden lessons.
Elijah shared how he extended his hand to help those in need, only to be ignored when he needed the smallest favor in return.
Those he lifted looked the other way. And still, life moved on.
Those who still believe they can’t knock your shine again are not just mistaken, they’re lounging proudly in the basement of thought, sipping ego cocktails, and calling it enlightenment.
We are living in a generation eager to challenge the builders of empires, fractured by pride, drunk on fast success, mocking those who laid foundations with sweat and sacrifice.
But one thing is eternal: Nature never forgets. It harvests what we all have sown.
Today, we rise to celebrate a man who has given, built, endured, and grown.
Happy birthday to Mr. Oni Elijah, Eli-Euro.
You are not just a year older, you are a living testimony.
Time will yet vindicate you.
With respect and fire,
D Mockratic Pen
