Rift Emerges Between Trump and Netanyahu

As Donald Trump prepares for his first major foreign trip to the Middle East this week, tensions appear to be growing between him and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—a stark contrast to their earlier alignment.

Back in February, the two leaders shared common ground on key issues including Iran, the Houthis, and the war in Gaza. But that unity has frayed. Trump has since dismissed Netanyahu’s push for joint military action to dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities.


In a move that surprised Israeli officials, Trump also struck a deal with the Houthi militias to end U.S. airstrikes—just days after a Houthi missile targeted Israel’s main airport.

Even on Gaza, where Trump has largely backed Netanyahu, there are signs of divergence. His envoys continue working toward a ceasefire, signaling a diplomatic approach that may not fully align with Netanyahu’s hardline strategy.
