Osun Reclaims Its Adire Heritage: Stakeholders Rally for Cultural Revival at World Media Conference

In a program themed “WORLD MEDIA CONFERENCE FOR ADIRE OSUN,” cultural leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders gathered to reaffirm Osun State’s position as the true cradle of authentic Adire craftsmanship. The event highlighted the importance of reframing the Adire industry as a dignified vocation, a cultural asset, and a viable economic engine for the state.


Hon. Ebenezer Adeniyi, Chairman of the Council, Executive Secretary Ajibade, and Hon. Olakunle, a board member, were present to champion the message that Osun’s creative economy rooted in tradition must be elevated and protected.




The conference emphasized the power of storytelling, cultural documentation, and responsible media coverage in shaping global perception. Speakers noted that when the media tells the full story of artisans, youth-led enterprises, and the value chain behind Adire, it attracts partnerships, investments, and new markets.


While some from Ogun State have argued ownership of Adire, Osun stakeholders clarified that the discussion goes far beyond Campala or modern fabric imitations, including those mass-produced by Chinese manufacturers using candle-based techniques. The true heritage of indigenous Adire, they said, rests in Osun’s historic craft houses such as Ile Aka, known as the leading authority and custodian of Adire in Osogbo, and Ile Akoda in Ede—both renowned for their originality, tradition, and technique passed down through generations.



Speakers reminded participants that culture is not merely heritage,it is an economic alternative for the youth and a source of pride for every citizen. They encouraged residents to wear Adire with honour, not just as decoration, but as a badge of solidarity with artisans and the creative minds shaping Osun’s future.


“Our Adire, our celebration, our future. Let us stitch them together with intention, integrity, and courage,” the communiqué concluded, urging all stakeholders to continue elevating the craft and telling stories that reflect dignity, complexity, and possibility.



The conference continues with a shared resolve: that the spirit of creativity will continue to guide Osun’s cultural and economic journey.
