The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has challenged the state government to explain the circumstances surrounding the release of the 38 abducted worshippers from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, in Eruku community.
Last week, armed bandits stormed the CAC branch in Eruku, a community bordering Kogi State within the Ekiti Local Government Area, and abducted scores of worshippers during a church programme, sparking widespread fear and outrage.
On Sunday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced that all 38 abducted worshippers had been rescued.
But the PDP says the celebration of the victims’ freedom is incomplete and raises serious concerns, especially as no arrest or identification of the perpetrators has been announced.
In a statement on Monday, the opposition party queried the state government’s silence on how the rescue operation was conducted and why the kidnappers remain at large.
The PDP stressed that while the safe return of the victims is commendable, the lack of accountability poses a continued threat to public safety in the region. The party urged the government to provide clarity, ensure justice, and strengthen security to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
